Today I welcome Laura Callea to the show, she is a women’s health physiotherapist with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Graduate Certificates in Pelvic Floor and Exercise & Women’s health. She’s also founder of the incredible online program, Pregnancy Posse.
Her vision is to enable women to feel great during their childbearing years, to empower women to improve their health and wellbeing during pregnancy and beyond, to provide safe and clinically effective exercises and advice and to educate women about their own bodies and what they can do to improve their health and reduce injury.
I have been wanting to bring a pelvic floor physiotherapist to the show for some time now and whether you’re pregnant, recovering postpartum or an active, health conscious woman I am sure there is something in this episode for you.
Laura gives a great explanation on what the pelvic floor is and how it impacts the bowel, bladder, sexual intercourse and pregnancy/birth. Laura guides us through pelvic floor activation and relaxation. She also explains the signs and symptoms of both underactive and overactive pelvic floor. All too often all we hear about pelvic floor is about how to strengthen it, but as you will learn from this episode relaxation of the pelvic floor may actually be more appropriate for many women.
If you enjoy listening to Laura then I encourage you to stay in touch with her via her blog and social media. If you’re pregnant or looking to fall pregnant then please keep Pregnancy Posse in mind. All links are in the show notes below.
