Episode 42: Dissecting the Diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome with Solaine Douglas.

This week we are joined by Nutritionist and founder of the PCOS pathway, Solaine Douglas. She has a Bachelor in Nutrition and is currently completing her Masters in Reproductive Medicine via the University of New South Wales. Like many holistic health practitioners, Solaine decided to pursue a career as a Nutritionist after her own cycle challenges were met with treatment suggestions that just didn’t sit well with her. She was told 'to just go back on the pill until I was ready for a baby' after having no period for two years. This was her 'catalyst’, the life changing event that set her on new trajectory.

If you’ve ever been told you have polycystic ovaries or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), or if you have an irregular menstrual cycle perhaps coupled with stagnant body fat, acne or excess hair-growth then this episode is for you. Today Solaine explains exactly what PCOS is and why using the correct definition before landing on a diagnosis is so important. We discuss the testing required to establish an accurate diagnosis and even how you can arrange this testing. You’ll learn about the various drivers for PCOS and you’ll hear us discuss traditional models for treating PCOS and in what scenarios complimentary health may be a more appropriate approach.
